5 Most Dangerous Train Journeys Around The World

Railways are quite fascinating and amazing mode of transportation. One can actually take in and enjoy the scenic beauty while traveling on them. However, some routes that are taken by trains can be quite dangerous. Here is our compilation of the most dangerous train journeys across the planet.

5. Kuranda Scenic Railway – AustraliaThese-5-Train-Routes-Are-Most-Dangerous-5

This particular route was built back in 18th century between Kurandis and Cairns and features quite an amazing journey that allows passengers to enjoy mesmerizing views of World Heritage site listed rain forest. It makes its way through steep ravines and waterfalls that are quite spectacular. Those of you who do take this route shall remember it forever.

4. Argo Gede Train Railroad – IndonesiaThese-5-Train-Routes-Are-Most-Dangerous-4

This one runs from Jakarta to Bandung and is a total of three hours ride. It makes its way over the sky-high Cikurutug pylon trestle bridge in Indonesia. Passengers can see the deep subtropical valley. The major accident on this route took place in 2002 where a train got derailed.

3. Tren A Las Nubes – ArgentinaThese-5-Train-Routes-Are-Most-Dangerous-3

Also known as ‘Train In The Clouds’, this route was built 13,850ft above the sea level and qualifies it as the third highest railway in the world. It connects La Polvorilla on the border of Chile to Salta in north-central Argentina. The route features 20 tunnels, 13 high-line bridges and more than 10 viaducts. A number of steep grades will leave you screaming.

2. White Pass And Yukon Route – AlaskaThese-5-Train-Routes-Are-Most-Dangerous-2

This amazing route was built during the Klondike Gold Rush back in 1898. It has been built along 9000ft high cliffs that stretch for more than 20 miles. The route passes through inverse compression bridges and rugged landscapes. All in all, a journey to remember.

1. Chennai-Rameswaram Route – IndiaThese-5-Train-Routes-Are-Most-Dangerous-1

This route is a 1.4 miles long bridge that has been built entirely in between the Indian Ocean. It was built back in 19th century. The train has to cross the bridge at quite low speeds thanks to the opposing force of strong winds. It takes about 20 minutes to cross the bridge owing to this reason. A number of accidents have occurred on this route. The last major one was back In 1964 when a storm swept away a full train.
