700 Years Old 12-Angled Stone was Laid Without Mortar by Inca Masons

The Inca Empire was the largest empire in pre-Columbian America and their administrative, political and military center was located in Cusco, Peru where you can still find many remnants of the once mighty empire.

The Incas were highly regarded for their architecture and masonry and many of their structures have withstood the test of time, still standing firm today.

Inca architecture is widely known for its fine masonry, which features precisely cut and shaped stones that are closely fitted without mortar.

The best-known example can be seen above, the famous “Twelve Angled Stone” located on Hatun Rumiyoc street in Cusco’s historical center.

Heralded for its perfect assembly, it is said that not even a sheet of paper can fit between the stones! Cusco was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983 and the city is a very popular destination for those wanting to learn more about the Inca Empire. The 12 Angled Stone is a popular destination so be prepared for big crowds and lots of selfies.
