Apple argues that China iPhone Ban would force it to settle with Qualcomm

Apple and Qualcomm are in the middle of a number of lawsuits and Qualcomm recently managed to get injunctions against sales of some models of the iPhone in China, basically older models of the handsets.

Apple is appealing the ruling and the company has said that this ban in China would actually force it into a settlement with Qualcomm, even though Apple is involved in various lawsuits against them.

“Apple will be forced to settle with the Respondent, causing all mobile phone manufacturers to relapse into the previous unreasonable charging mode and pay high licensing fees, resulting in unrecoverable losses in the downstream market of mobile phones,” the iPhone maker said in the Dec. 10 filing to the court.

If Apple is forced to settle with Qualcomm it would not be good news for them or the smartphone industry, it will be interesting to see what happens.
