Britain is Building World’s Skinniest Tower

World’s thinnest tower will be built at West Pier of Brighton, a seaside resort in England. The work on the British Airways i360 project has been in progress for months.

British Airways i360 holds the Guinness World Record for being the skinniest tower. The tower is only 3.9 meters wide at its widest point.

The observation deck on the top of the British Airways i360 tower has now reached its maximum height of 138 meters.

The tower will now undergo elaborate tests to ascertain its safety before it is opened to the public.

The design team of the British Airways i360 has already made a statement with the creation of the London Eye. The designer duo David Marks and Julia Barfield run the Marks Barfield Architects firm in London.

They envisioned an observation deck that could freely move up the tower.

On June 14, the glass-walled observation deck was raised to its maximum height, and a battery of tests ensued to determine its safety. Marks commented on the work thus far:

“Today, the team reached a major milestone with the pod reaching its maximum height for the first time. Testing and commissioning will continue for a few more weeks.”

Once completed, the observation pod will whisk off the visitors from the base of the tower, up a 450-feet high track.

The tower is over 162 meters tall, including the height of the spire on the top of the tower.

British Airways i360 will be the world’s tallest moving observation tower and will open to the public later this summer. The observation deck atop the tower will offer an unhindered 360-degree view of Brighton and Hove, the Sussex coast and the English Channel.
