Have you ever wondered that why men’s shirts have their buttons on the right side while women’s have them on the left? As it turns out, this peculiarity of men’s and women’s shirts dates all the way back to when buttons were invented, around the 13th century.
Back in the olden days, only wealthy women could afford to have buttons on their shirts. They usually had maids who helped them dress every day. That’s why the buttons on women’s shirts were placed on the left side: to make it easier for maids to button it. Men usually tended to dress themselves, hence their buttons were placed on the right side. How insane is this that we are still following the same rules and ideas of the olden age!
