Having made more than $300 million throughout his career, boxing legend Mike Tyson was able to afford a lavish lifestyle, buying numerous mansions and cars. When he filed for bankruptcy in 2004 he was already deep in debt.
In the late 90s he lost ownership of his 5-bedroom,60 acre property with an indoor pool, basket ball court and on-site tiger cages near Southington, Ohio to an entrepreneur who was arrested on drug related charges a year later.Mike Tyson decked out his mansion with expensive hand cut crystal chandeliers, the pool was bigger than most homes. The tiger print carpet is a bit tasteless and it had everything that a multimillionaire would want – hey money was no object.
The former world champion was taken into police custody in 1991 on allegations of sexual assault and rape. At his trial in 1992 a jury found him guilty of the rape and the judge sentenced him to 6 years in prison.
In 1995 Mike Tyson applied for parole and it was granted and he was released from prison, going back to Southington with the naive hope of evading the press – which failed badly.
He lost a lot of his wealth and was in a serious financial position so he put his mansion up for sale in 1999 for and it sold for $1.3m.
Since then it has changed hands many times and one of the owners was the subject of an FBI investigation when he tried to sell it – and is now set to be converted into a church.
