One More Passenger Tries To Throw Coins Into Jet’s Engine For Good Luck

On February 17th, security personnel at the Anqing Tianzhushan Airport in Anhui province found two coins on the ground near the left-side engine of Lucky Air flight 8L9960 to Kunming.

A 28-year-old passenger Lu, admitted throwing the coins for safe flight. He was arrested. Lucky Air claimed that the event resulted in 140,000 yuan (US$20,000) in losses and has said that it plans to pursue legal action against Lu.

The flight was canceled with all 161 passengers having to wait until the following day to fly to Kunming.

This is the third confirmed case since June 2017.

In June 2017, an 80-year-old elderly woman was detained by police at Shanghai Pudong International Airport for throwing coins to the engine, forcing nearly 150 passengers to be evacuated from the plane.

In Oct 2017, another 76-year-old woman detained for throwing coins to wish for a safe flight.

Both of them were not prosecuted due to their old age.
