Real-Time Visual Reveal How ‘Slow’ Light Travels into the Vastness of Space

‘Slow’ Light Travels into the Vastness of Space

In this excellent real-time visualization, we begin with our planet to understand just how quick light travels (300,000 km per second/186,000 miles per second). However, things immediately get mind-boggling when we use nearby bodies in space like the moon, mars, and sun.

The visualization was produced by Dr. James O’Donoghue who is a Planetary Scientist at the Japanese Space Agency, JAXA. The Doctor also worked at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
