DC and Warner Brothers have joined forces with Portal Games to bring you a memorable gaming experience. Based on their award-winning Detective series, Everybody Lies will be a deduction game where you team up with Batman to crack crimes. Sadly, you won’t be able to play as the caped crusader, rather, you’ll be able to play as intuitive journalist Warren Spacey, tenacious reporter Vicki Vale, brutish detective Harvey Bullock, or the Catwoman. Given those options, I think Catwoman will definitely be the role fought over at my gaming tables. Be careful who you choose though, each character will have their own incentives and individual win conditions that are kept mystery from the other players.
The game will come with an original story told over the course of 4 cases. The prologue will help players get acquainted with the gameplay before going on to solve 3 more cases each one taking about 2-3 hours. Players will visit famous locations in Gotham City and cross paths with well-known Batman characters (like Batman, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, and more) as they chase leads, choose suspects, and gather information to help save Gotham City. Each case can be played as a stand-alone, but all 4 will make a master narrative.
Players will get to use a variety of physical and digital game components, such as a deck of cards with essential clues and plot twists, various physical handouts, and a dedicated website with access to in-world resources from the Gotham City Gazette archives, to solve the crime. New to the Batman version are scenes that bring memorable gameplay moments to life via original comic book illustrations.
The game sounds fun and will be available for preorder on March 4 for $50 with a retail release in Summer 2022. That is a fantastic price for a game like this. Mark your calendar, you won’t want to miss your chance to get this game.
