This is What Happens to NYC’s Trash

If you ever wondered what happens to New York’s mountain of trash, This is what happens to NYC’s 3.2 million tons of trash as none of it is actually treated in NYC. It’s sent to waste-to-energy plants and landfills as far away as Ohio and South Carolina.

It takes a large network of sanitation workers, trucks, trains, cranes, and barges — and $429 million USD a year — to take it there and process it.
