On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID19 a global pandemic. In other words, and as the Director of the WHO himself has said, this is not a drill.
For yourself, the 3 most important things are:
– Wash your hands (properly)
– Don’t touch your face (it’s harder than you think)
– Disinfect your phone (COVID19 can likely live up to 96 hours on phone screens)
Social distancing is also being strongly recommended. One major reason for all of this?
FLATTEN THE CURVE
A spike in COVID19 transmissions can and will overload a country’s healthcare system (ICU beds, ER visits, etc.). This is what happened in Italy, and why there is so much urgency to flatten the curve and do whatever we can to lower and delay the epidemic peak.
Several versions of the graph above have been created and animated. Please share whichever one best helps get this point across and help flatten the curve.
