In January 1951, Mt. Hood in Oregon revealed its unique “Cloudliner” aerial tram, but it was closed nearly two years later.
The luxurious Cloudliner with interior heat and leather seating emerged on the cover of Popular Science magazine, touting it as an engineering marvel. Despite its popularity, a mix of factors culminated fast and this tram was shut down for good almost as fast as it went up.
